Thomas McCann is not just a criminal trial lawyer; he is a dedicated champion for justice, blending keen insight with a relentless pursuit of truth while helping his clients navigate the complexities of the criminal justice system. Thomas’s practice focuses on both criminal trials and appeals. He is sensitive to the harm that accompanies being charged and thrust into the criminal justice system and he is tenacious in advancing his clients’ best interests in a timely and strategic manner. Thomas is also diligent to ensure that his clients are thoroughly informed and guided through the process, which can often be highly stressful and overwhelming, particularly for those with no prior involvement in the criminal justice system. 

With a wealth of experience gained from his time as an Assistant Crown Attorney, where he prosecuted serious drug and organized crime cases, and his background in civil law, Thomas possesses a unique perspective that enhances his advocacy. His litigation experience has been extensive, both in the Ontario and Superior Court of Justice, including jury trials, preliminary inquiries, constitutional challenges, and bail hearings.

His commitment to understanding and addressing the fears and challenges faced by his clients informs his approach, ensuring they feel supported at every stage of their legal journey.

A graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School, Thomas has honed his skills in the courtroom, demonstrating a tireless work ethic and a belief that every client deserves a passionate defence. During his time at Osgoode Hall, Thomas was a criminal law division leader at the law school’s legal clinic. In this role, he represented economically disadvantaged and vulnerable members of the community, routinely obtained favorable outcomes for his clients, including the outright withdrawal of charges. Thomas was also selected for the law school’s Criminal Intensive Program, which was an immersive and practical experience consisting of shadowing criminal lawyers at another premier criminal defence firm in Toronto.
