Thomas McCann - Criminal Lawyer

Thomas McCann is a criminal trial and appeal lawyer at Daniel Brown Law. He is sensitive to the harm that accompanies being charged and thrust into the criminal justice system, and he is tenacious in advancing his clients’ best interests in a timely and strategic manner. Thomas makes sure his clients are thoroughly informed and guided through a process that can be highly stressful and overwhelming, particularly for those with no prior involvement in the criminal justice system.

Thomas brings a perspective few defence lawyers have: he served as an Assistant Crown Attorney, prosecuting serious drug and organized crime cases, and also has a background in civil law. His litigation experience is extensive in both the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice, including jury trials, preliminary inquiries, constitutional challenges, and bail hearings. He also acts as appeal counsel.

A graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School, Thomas was a criminal law division leader at the law school’s legal clinic. In that role he represented economically disadvantaged and vulnerable members of the community, and routinely obtained favourable outcomes for his clients, including the outright withdrawal of charges. Thomas was also selected for the law school’s Criminal Intensive Program, an immersive placement shadowing criminal lawyers at a Toronto criminal defence firm.

At Daniel Brown Law, Thomas draws on his trial experience — on both sides of the courtroom — to deliver the representation clients need during their most difficult times.

Thomas is a member of the Law Society of Ontario and the Criminal Lawyers’ Association. He can be reached to schedule a consultation by phone at (416) 297-7200 x111 or by email at [email protected].
