Mya Westhaver – Research Lawyer

Mya brings a strong academic foundation and hands-on criminal defence experience to the firm as research counsel. Originally from the East Coast, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, before completing her Juris Doctor at the University of New Brunswick. During her time at law school, Mya worked alongside criminal defence counsel on a wide range of charges, contributing to all stages of case preparation, including legal research and drafting.

Prior to joining the firm, Mya worked for another well-established criminal defence firm in Toronto, where she gained extensive experience in both trial and appellate work. Her exposure spanned a wide range of serious and complex criminal matters, including drug trafficking and homicide cases.

As a research lawyer, Mya plays an integral role in the day-to-day operations of the practice which includes preparing court materials, managing disclosure and transcripts, and coordinating appeal records and factums, ensuring every file is handled with precision and efficiency. Her legal training and prior experience provide her with a deep understanding of the legal issues and high stakes faced by individuals accused of criminal offences, allowing her to support cases with insight and precision.

Mya is deeply committed to criminal defence work and takes pride in contributing meaningfully to the representation of the firm’s clients. She is a member of the Law Society of Ontario and a member of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association.
